As patients of the Lyme Center of New England, we cannot begin to express our relief and gratitude for having found (NP) Susan Neuber and her team. The challenge of getting this chronic and complex disease under control has been met by Susan and her team with compassion and professional care that has literally changed our lives.
I started seeing Susan Neuber NP in 2014 after having been to at least 15 doctors. I was incredibly sick, bed bound, and at my wits end. Sue tested me for all tick-borne illnesses and the results came back positive for 3 of them. I was immediately started on the right medications. Within a month, I began to feel better and was able to get out of bed. Both of my children have Lyme and coinfections as well and have been treated by Sue at the Lyme Center. It has been a long process but she has given us our lives back. Sue has stuck with us, adjusted meds when needed, and ordered all the necessary testing. She is warm, listens, and is so understanding and intelligent. She knows Lyme disease backwards and forwards. I can’t say enough and we owe her our lives. The people in her office are professional, caring, patient and kind. You will get better at the Lyme Center. We truly owe Sue our lives.
Susan Neuber saved my life. For 12 years I had a variety of seemingly unrelated health issues, including bouts of vertigo, hot flashes, intermittent exhaustion, trouble driving at night, knee pain, sinus infections, forgetfulness, and ultimately limited mobility and palsy. Looking at my symptoms, MRI, and spinal tap, 3 different neurologists concluded I had MS. Susan Neuber dug deeper, uncovering Lyme, plus additional co-infections as the possible “MS” triggers. Like peeling away layers of an onion, she went after the Lyme and coinfections until all my ailments were gone. It is disconcerting to consider how many people accept a lifelong autoimmune disease diagnosis, vs considering they may have undetected Lyme disease contributing to their condition. Today I’m able to drive at night after a long day of work or play. I read, write, and live an active and fully engaged life. Filled with gratitude!
7 years ago, I was bitten by a tick. I went to my PCP and he prescribed two weeks of Doxycycline. Following treatment, I was still having crippling symptoms of joint pain and exhaustion. I was sent to every specialist you could imagine because the Doctor was certain this could not be Lyme disease. My existing symptoms magnified and I developed balance issues, brain fog, speech issues, confusion, etc. Each specialist (including infectious disease) told me this could not be Lyme, yet not one of them could tell me why this was happening or help reduce my symptoms. I left every specialist’s office feeling like a hypochondriac.
Finally, I found Susan Neuber and scheduled an appointment at the Lyme Center of New England. She truly was the first health care provider who listened to me - really listened to me, my story and my struggles. She explained the complexity of identifying tick-borne illnesses and how many different tick-related illnesses are out there. Testing revealed that I did in fact have Lyme disease – actually, three tick-borne illnesses - and treatment was initiated. She explained her approach every step of the way, as Lyme can be very tricky and will respond differently to certain treatments.
Sue never ever gave up on me. If one approach didn’t work, she tried another. Besides identifying that I had chronic Lyme, she also helped to diagnose my neurological issues including petit-mal seizures. I could always count on Susan to be in my corner during my fight back to health. Susan truly gave me my life back. She gave me hope when I felt there was no other option and was my biggest cheerleader throughout my treatment.
My quality of life now is far greater than I thought possible. I am forever grateful to her and to her fabulous staff throughout this journey.
